Using KnowledgeSync for Reports on
Demand
Welcome to week #19 of the
KnowledgeSync Educational Bulletin for Business Partners
and clients who are using KnowledgeSync.
This week's question:
I was speaking with Tricia at Vineyardsoft the other day
and she mentioned that she uses KnowledgeSync to request
M&S Status Reports for individual Business Partners.
Exactly how does this work?
Answer:
We do this by combining KnowledgeSync's ability to
monitor incoming email along with its ability to
generate and deliver Crystal Reports.
In Tricia's case, she sends an email message to a
specific internal Vineyardsoft mail account that is
configured to receive report requests. In the subject of
her message, she puts in the Business Partner's ID - a
unique, 5-digit number.
When a message is received into this particular email
account, KnowledgeSync scans the incoming message, pulls
the partner ID out of the subject, calls our Crystal M&S
report, passes the ID into that report as a selection
criteria, generates the report, and emails the content
back to Tricia.
We have many KnowledgeSync clients who use this
functionality to provide their own customers with a way
to request and receive reports without having to ask
someone to produce and deliver them. Some clients refer
to this functionality as "Reports on Demand", whereas
others call it "Self-Service Reports".
Regardless of what you call it, the ability to use
KnowledgeSync to receive report requests, generate the
requested report - with the appropriate data - and then
deliver that report back to the requestor is a handy bit
of functionality that aids many clients today.
